Ted Cruz Swoops In And Calls Planned Parenthood Shooter A “Transgendered Leftist Activist”

Ted Cruz has a particular brand of ignorance so abrasively loud and absurd that my only effective coping mechanism is laughing at the mess. In what I would deem a very On Brand move from the illustrious Cruz, he has shared some very ignorant and downright illogical views about the shooting at the Colorado Springs’ Planned Parenthood on Friday.

Despite clear evidence to the contrary, Cruz immediately shot down notions that the shooter was Republican or pro-life, claiming those speculations were just “vicious rhetoric on the left, blaming those who are pro-life.”

When reporters gently corrected him, saying there was even record of the shooter muttering about baby parts, Cruz lashed back by saying: “It’s also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and transgendered leftist activist, if that’s what he is.”

Wait, WHAT?! How is that even a thing? In what universe would a Trans* activist shoot up a Planned Parenthood as an act of extreme leftism? The spirited and deeply confused conviction of Cruz is terrifying, and borderline aspirational (if it weren’t directed towards being ridiculous and bigoted).

Apparently Gateway Pundit, a right-winged news blog outed shooting suspect Robert Lewis Dear’s voter registration where he is listed as a woman, and Cruz is clinging to this as convoluted evidence for his ‘transgendered leftist activist’ theory.

While in the past Cruz has railed against Planned Parenthood, even going so far as to call it a ‘criminal enterprise,’ he showed  an ounce of humanity (an OUNCE , which is to say, not much) when he responded to the PP shooting by saying, “A multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual. And it was horrific, it was evil and we will find out more about the facts, but I don’t think we should jump to conclusions.”

This makes him the only member of the GOP to openly acknowledge the tragedy of the shooting, which is pathetic. Hopefully next time he’ll take his own medicine and won’t jump to ridiculous conclusions, but given his track record, I’m not holding my breath.
