Protestors Shut Down Chicago’s Shopping District On Black Friday Over Laquan McDonald Killing

Hundreds of protesters blocked many entrances to stores throughout Chicago’s “magnificent mile,” its high-end popular shopping district on Black Friday.

The protests, spearheaded by Jesse Jackson along with other activists were over Laquan McDonald’s brutal killing at the hands of a police officer from last year.

The release of the video showing the shooting death of McDonald, 17, was recently revealed where he was shot a total of 16 times by white Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke in 2014. The Chicago police had been hiding the video for a year before it was discovered.

Van Dyke has since been charged with first-degree murder, however, activists continue to rally against these unwarranted and brutal deaths (and covering up of these deaths) at the hands of those in power against a black minority.

All protests yesterday were peaceful; mainly involving chants, placards and blocking entrances to stores.
