We Should All Be Thankful For The Wonder That Is Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey sat down with The Cut to talk about her new limited-edition collaboration with MAC, and in the process, revealed that, yes, she still doesn’t really care for Jennifer Lopez.

Your fans love to give you crazy presents. What’s something you’ve gotten recently from a Lamb?

Recently? I don’t know. [yawns] I’m sorry, I’m having a “sleep” moment…

Well, there was a very interesting shirt that a fan made with a quote that I said years ago that, when I said it, I really wasn’t trying to be funny. I was just being honest and everybody’s kind of blowing it out of proportion but this guy had a shirt on and it was a picture of me that he made and the quote was underneath it — and I’m going to leave you hanging as to what it was.

Will I be able to Google what it was?

Probably, yes. [Editor’s Note: After consulting with Vulture’s resident member of the Lambily, we’]re pretty sure she’s referring to the fan-made “I Don’t Know Her” T-shirts that allude to Carey’s famous comment about J.Lo.]

Mariah Carey is an inspiration to us all. She shades with the ease and grace of someone well-versed in the art. Let the record show that she claimed a “sleep” moment before launching into a conversation about Jennifer Lopez, a woman she claims not to know. She’s brilliant. She’s a genius. She may not be able to hit those high notes like she used to, but if we lose her whistle notes at the expense of this kind of shade, it’s well worth it.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane and revisit the time that Mariah Carey judged “American Idol” with Nicki Minaj. Please watch this Barbara Walters interview, a perfect example of a woman who figured out who and what she wanted to be early on and has spent her entire adult life and career manifesting that.

This. Woman. We don’t deserve her.

This year, dedicate your holiday season to honoring legend Mariah Carey. She’s a treasure. We are too blessed.
