7 Girls Kicked Off High School Basketball Team For Complaining About Handsy Coach

Seven teenage girls in Slidell, Louisiana, have been complaining about a male basketball coach whom they say makes them uncomfortable due to the fact that he is overly “touchy-feely” and has a documented (by their female assistant coach) tendency to linger in their locker room after being told to leave. After being ignored by administrators who were not addressing their concerns, the girls refused to play in a game in order to call attention to the situation.

“I felt uncomfortable around him on and off the court because he was very feely. Hand on the shoulders and other places and stuff,” one player told the New Orleans Advocate. “It made me feel uncomfortable. I never had a touchy-feely coach before. I felt uncomfortable.”

One of the parents of the girls said that the reason they didn’t play the game is because they wanted to get a sit down with the coach and principal and talk out their concerns, saying, “This is not a witch hunt against the coach. We want the best for our kids, and we want our kids safe.”

However, after skipping the game, the girls were summarily kicked off the team by the Principal and not even allowed to ask any questions about why.

It’s great to see these bad ass high school girls standing up for themselves and they should feel extremely proud, because it’s really not an easy thing to do. You would think that the administration would take something like this more seriously, like by actually investigating their claims, given that we’re talking about an adult being inappropriate with teenage girls.
