Charlie Sheen Confirms He Has HIV, Says He’s Paid $10 Million To Keep Diagnosis A Secret
This morning, Charlie Sheen appeared on “The Today Show” and, as expected, disclosed that he is HIV positive. The announcement comes after weeks of rumors making headlines in various newspapers and blogs.
“I am, in fact, HIV-positive,” Sheen said. “I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage, of attacks, of sub-truths, and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about threatening the health of so many others, which couldn’t be farther from the truth.”
Sheen says he believes he contracted the virus four years ago, and found out himself after seeking medical help for “insane migraines” and night sweats that he thought might be signs of a brain tumor. Since then, he says he has paid millions of dollars to an undisclosed list of people who threatened to reveal his HIV status to the world. Sheen read a letter aloud to Lauer, which said:
“In and around this perplexing time, I dazedly chose or hired the companionship of unsavory and insipid types. Regardless of their saltless reputations, I always led with condoms and honesty when it came to my condition. Sadly my truth soon became their treason, as a deluge of blackmail and extortion took center stage in this circus of deceit.”
As for whether Sheen transmitted the virus to anyone else? “Impossible. Impossible.” You can watch the full interview in two parts, above and below.
