California Teen Is First Transgender Student On Her High School’s Cheerleading Squad

Anry Fuentes says she has always wanted to be a cheerleader, and after making the varsity team, she also became the first transgender cheerleader at Denair High School, in Denair, California.

Anry realized she was transgender in her junior year, after struggling with her gender and sexual identity throughout teenhood.

She has been welcomed by her teammates with open arms and says of her announcement to the team of her desire to transition: “No one has ever made me feel weird or like I shouldn’t be there. “They’re really supportive.”

Congrats on making varsity, Anry!
