Black Missouri Football Players On Strike Until School President Resigns

More than 30 football players at the University of Missouri have made the decision to boycott team activities (ie. participating in any of their football games) in protest of the University’s President Timothy Wolfe amid the poor handling of racial incidents surrounding the campus, prompting a hunger strike by a student last week.

The state of Missouri’s Legion of Black Collegians, or the LBC, posted their support of the players on their Twitter on Saturday:

Missouri’s student body is 77% white and 7% black but 58 of the school’s 84 scholarship football players are African-American. This shows that blacks are valued for their physical strengths as commodified bodies but not valued equally as people.

How can a place of learning support a president who so blatantly betrays a group of their students?
