Adnan Syed’s Motion To Reopen Has Been Granted

A year after his case garnered international attention thanks to the podcast Serial, Adnan Syed had been granted the biggest victory yet in his fight for freedom since being convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in 1999. Today, Judge Martin P. Welch granted Syed’s motion to reopen his post-conviction proceedings, which means that alibi testimony from Asia McClain will finally be heard and his legal team will be able introduce new evidence related to the cell tower data that was at the heart of the prosecution’s case. You can read Judge Welch’s order here.
