Leah Remini On Scientology: Criticizing Tom Cruise Means “You Are Evil”

Mark your calendars! Cancel your plans! Leah Remini is going to be on “20/20″ this Friday night, dishing some dirt on the Church of Scientology, of which she was a member from age 15 up until she severed ties in 2013. In this brief preview, Remini — who is promoting her even dishier new book, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology — talks about how the more involved you are with the church, the more detached from reality you become. “The mindset becomes us against them,” she says. She goes on to explain that this makes leaving the church much more difficult. “The decision to leave is…you’re giving up everything you have worked for your whole life. I feel that people need to understand this has been my whole life and I want them to understand how it happens.”

Remini also doesn’t appear to mince words when it comes to discussing Scientology’s most famous figure and his untouchable status within the church: “Being critical of Tom Cruise is being critical of Scientology itself,” Remini says. “You are evil.” But to find out how she answers the question, “If you knew that Tom Cruise was watching this, what would you say to him?” you’ll have to watch on Friday night. [Refinery 29]
