Having Multiple Sex Partners Is “Almost Like Rape” Says Anti-Choice Lady

In case you ever doubt for a moment that the whole anti-abortion thing is far more about regulating sexuality than it is about any great love of fetuses, allow me to introduce you to anti-choice activist Carol Everett!

Everett claims to have formerly led a life of sin, “selling abortions” to women across Texas and just raking in all that sweet, sweet abortion money. Given that in the brief moment it took me to research her, I’ve come across at least four differing accounts of her life (she had one abortion, she had three abortions, she owned a clinic, she worked at a clinic, she worked for several clinics, none of which are ever actually named, etc. etc.), I will be taking that statement with a grain of salt.

Most of her “testimonies,” which include stories of giving women “low-dose” birth control pills so they’d get pregnant and need abortions, and “pushing” sex ed as a way to encourage young women to have sex in order to perform more abortions, appear to be a lot closer to pipe dreams than to any version of reality.

Anyway, Everett has a bone to pick with Planned Parenthood, and it is not just about abortion this time (surprise!)–it is about the fact that she believes (GASP) that they encourage women to have sex! And not the kind of sex Carol Everett approves of them having! Which is just like rape, really!

Via Right Wing Watch:

“You and I know anytime you break down God’s principles, you’re going to get in trouble,” Everett said, “but this is horrible. What they do to young women is lie to them about what this birth control pill will do, encourage them to have sex with multiple partners and, you know, they’ve also gotten into much more perverted things now.”

“Everything they’re doing is destructive,” she said, which prompted host Rick Green to go off on a tangent about how Planned Parenthood now allegedly also promotes thing like polyamory and open relationships, which is destroying not only people’s hearts and minds but entire communities.

“It’s sick,” Everett agreed. “It breaks down all those natural barriers that we’re supposed to have. Think about this: one woman sleeping with a man and she knows this woman living here sleeps with him too, how does she feel about that woman? That is not a relationship that fosters anything kind. And how does she feel about him? That, in my mind, is almost like rape when you’re just having sex with two or three different women. It’s just, what are you doing? It is a sick thing and the only thing that can help us recover is Jesus.”

You know what is not like rape? Consensual sex! And I’m pretty sure that most victims of rape and sexual assault would really prefer that consensual sex with a person who has had multiple partners not be referred to as “almost like rape.”

As much as it may upset Everett to know, it is not actually Planned Parenthood’s job to scold people for being polyamorous or having open relationships. It is their job to provide a service to women, regardless of whether or not Carol Everett personally approves of their sex lives!

Also, I don’t think anyone has ever shown up to an appointment at Planned Parenthood and been subjected to a persuasive speech in favor of polyamory or any other specific and personal sexual lifestyle. That is just not a thing that happens, except in the fevered dreams of people like Carol Everett.
