Donald Trump Says He Totally Would Have Prevented 9/11 If He Were President

Donald Trump, who is somehow actually running for President, has said a new dumb thing. He is now saying that if he had been President, 9/11 would have never happened. Which is quite a bold statement!

Now, if you’re thinking that perhaps Trump believes he would have taken the early intelligence that Osama Bin Laden was planning a terrorist attack on the United States more seriously and thus been more prepared somehow, you would be a fool. As Trump explained on Fox News Sunday, he would have been so totally hard on immigration that those who carried out the attacks never would have even been able to get into the country.

This is probably not the case. I am hardly here to stan for Dubya, but he had only been President for nine months at that time, and I’m not sure you can get rid of alllllllll the immigrants in a year when you have other stuff to do (not that he was doing that either). To boot, most of the the 9/11 hijackers had six-month tourist visas, so they weren’t exactly like, sneaking into the country illegally.

If anything, I’d say Trump is even less likely to listen to other people’s advice than Bush, Condoleezza Rice or Donald Rumsfeld were. Which is saying a lot. Pompousness works well for reality television, but is actually a pretty dangerous quality for a president to possess.

But hindsight is 20/20, and we’d all like to think that things would be different had we been in charge. Amelia says that if she’d been President, she would have prevented the breakup of Britney and Justin. Had I been president, I like to think I would have prevented the cancellations of “Firefly” and “Veronica Mars.”

The main problem with Trump — aside from the sheer and torturous ridiculousness of it all — is that he clearly has no idea what the President even does or has power to do, or how government works at all. He literally thinks he could just get up there and be like, “OK! All the undocumented immigrants are going home now, and also we are building a wall!” and that it will be both possible to do immediately, and completely effective as far as keeping us safe goes. It’s either a child’s idea of being president, or a dictator’s idea of ruling. Neither of which is a good thing.
