The Unbearable Beauty Of Slow-Motion Lumberjacking
I was reading with the TV on mute yesterday when I looked up and saw something mesmerizing: A slow-mo shot of a man using a giant saw to cut through a log. It turns out that the program I was watching was an airing of the Stihl Timbersports lumberjack competition, and apparently the man was participating in the single buck competition. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’ve chopped wood once in my life, so lumberjacking isn’t exactly my wheelhouse.
Every sport has slow-mo replays, but for some reason, watching wood get hacked and sawed to pieces in slow motion was particularly enthralling to me. There’s something peaceful about sawdust floating through the air at a fraction of the real speed. Don’t believe me? Check these gifs out for yourself, and then watch as Pool B of the Stihl Timbersports U.S. Championships air on ABC next Sunday, October 18, at 4 p.m. Eastern.
