People Are Angry At Ashley Benson’s “Cecil The Lion” Halloween Costume

So, Ashley Benson, from “Pretty Little Liars” and the movie “Spring Breakers” — which also inspired many a Halloween getup a few years ago — is in hot water with her 9.3 million (seriously?) Instagram followers after posting the above photo, originally captioned, “What do you guys thing of this Cecil the lion costume?” (She’s since changed the caption to “Help! Can’t decide on my Halloween costume this year!”) The lion costume was gifted to her by and is actually labeled simply the “deluxe lion costume” (retailing for $149.95), but the site also sells an actual Cecil costume — and obviously, it is SEXXXXXXXY.

Benson’s followers did not enjoy the reference to Cecil, the beloved African lion who was poached by that American dentist in July, saying Benson’s joke was “in bad taste” and “offensive.” Here’s a sampling of the reactions her post got before she changed the caption:

Honestly, these people need to settle the fuck down. A sexy Cecil the Lion costume is hardly my jam, and I guess it’s tasteless, but taste is kind of overrated. Also, it could be worse. I mean, it’s not a BLOODY or decapitated lion costume, you know? But more importantly, on the grand scale of offensive Halloween costumes, this ranks really, really low — and I can’t help but wonder whether they will get this pissed about the parade of truly offensive, i.e. racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic costumes that are inevitable this year and every year. Somehow, I doubt there’s much overlap in outrage. [Mic]
