5 Ways Kermit The Frog & Liz Lemon Are Totally Alike

You’d have to be living under a rock (ahem) to not notice the similarities between ABC’s “The Muppets” and NBC’s beloved “30 Rock.” Indeed, without the wacky variety show Muppets of the ’70s, it’s doubtful Liz Lemon and the gang would have existed. Much like Kermit the Frog, Liz Lemon had a large TV production to keep in check. But that’s not the only thing these two have in common.

1. Both of them depend on high-maintenance besties.

Liz Lemon’s best friend, the spotlight-hogging Jenna Maroney, was a handful, especially once she was pushed to co-starring status with the equally nutty Tracy Jordan. Liz probably had to devote an hour a day to talking Jenna out of her dressing room. Miss Piggy wants generic trash to cover up her personal trash so that the janitor doesn’t know what she’s throwing away. AND she knows karate, so what can Kermit do? Start crumpling paper, I guess.

2. Both of them eat a lot.

Kermit is clearly stressed out. Wouldn’t you be if you had a bear and a … whatever Gonzo is on your staff? So he deals with it by eating two servings of Bolognese and a brownie sundae. Yikes. But that doesn’t quite compare to Liz “Hide Your Steaks” Lemon, who could finish an entire footlong sandwich in a supply closet before you could ask, “Wait, where did all the pizza go?”

3. Both of them are lousy dressers.

Look, we love Lemon just the way she was. But would it have killed her to sport a nice pair of wedges or a cute pencil skirt? And Kermit – wearing just a collar doesn’t actually make you any less naked.

4. Both of them are dating network drones.

As we all know, Kermit is no longer with Miss Piggy, but he is seeing Denise, a nubile young piglet who runs marketing for ABC. Doesn’t that seem like a mistake, having your rebound visit you while you’re working with your ex? Ah, we’re sure Kermit knows what he’s doing. Look how dating an NBC lawyer worked out for Liz Lemon – Floyd was seemingly the perfect man for her, until he couldn’t handle New York anymore and moved to Cleveland.

5. Both of them have a thing for astronauts.

To be honest, none of Liz’s real life boyfriends could compare with her true (imaginary) love – Astronaut Mike Dexter. It took learning about her mother’s real fling with Buzz Aldrin to snuff out that relationship. And Kermit? Pigs In Space.

Shalewa Sharpe will be recapping “The Muppets” on her Tumblr.
