NC Mayoral Candidate: “What’s Wrong With Eradicating Homosexuals? We Should Jail Them!”

Eugene Holmes, who seems like a totally reasonable and charming person, is running for mayor in Kings Mountain, a suburb of of Charlotte, North Carolina. His platform, primarily, is that he wishes to throw gay people in jail. Also, he lists his name on the ballot as “Sherlock.”

Holmes says he is “inspired” by Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis, and her dedication to their cause.

Via Kings Mountain Herald:

“In my administration I would do just like Mrs. Davis did in Kentucky,” said Holmes, referring to Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Ky., clerk of court who gained national media attention earlier this month by defying a federal court order in not issuing same-sex marriage licenses following a U.S. Supreme Court decision that effectively legalized gay marriage. (The City of Kings Mountain does not issue marriage licenses.)

“If you elect me, I’ll uphold the law of the state of North Carolina,” said Holmes, a 77-year-old Korean War veteran who makes a living by selling various wares at area flea markets. I would get the D.A. to swear out a warrant on any man who says he’s gay. Sodomy is a crime, a felony in the state of North Carolina.”

“What’s wrong with eradicating homosexuals? We should jail them, throw them all in jail!” said Holmes, who plans to participate in a Meet the Candidates forum at the Kings Mountain Woman’s Club this Saturday.

Holmes has previously run for the state House, but was disqualified due to the fact that he was a felon. Which is probably why the only picture I could find of him is his mugshot. He’s been arrested and jailed a number of times, most recently this March for disorderly conduct and trespassing when he walked into the Family Worship Center church in Kings Mountain in order to yell about how much he dislikes gay people, and then attempted to make a “citizen’s arrest.”

Although “eradicating homosexuality” is at the top of his list, Holmes is also interested in banning divorce, alcohol, literally all immigration–and is quite concerned with the “Blood Moon” which appeared on September 13th, which some believe is a sign of an impending apocalypse.

He has previously spent time in a psychiatric ward, where he was diagnosed with “religious delusions.”

Now, sure. I’m sure there are some out there who are thinking “This man is crazy and not representative of me and my sincerely held anti-gay views! I don’t want to arrest people for being gay, I just want to make sure that I have more rights than gay people do! For reasons! And Jesus! Also I would like to not have to bake cakes for them. For reasons! And Jesus!” But you see, that is not actually that much different, from a logical standpoint, from Eugene “Sherlock” Holmes, a man diagnosed with “religious delusions” wanting to throw people in jail for being gay, for “reasons” and “Jesus.”

And you should know that, to people who aren’t driven psychotic by homophobia, you actually do not sound all that much different from him.
