It’s Time To Cry: Watch Ahmed Mohamed Get Invited To Tour MIT

I love kids, but as a former teen who ran home from school to work on her “Star Trek: The Next Generation” fanfic novel, I have a special place in my heart for the sweet, nerdy ones. It does not matter how intelligent Ahmed Mohamed actually is, the unlawful interrogation and unjustified arrest he endured on Monday should not happen to ANY student, regardless of how gifted they may or may not be. But goddamn, it is so heartening to watch this clearly brilliant teen, who built an electronic clock in 20 minutes, being showered with all the positive attention and support he should have gotten from his teachers in the first place.

Last night, Ahmed appeared on MSNBC for an interview with Chris Hayes, and towards the end of the broadcast, he was introduced to Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, an astrophysicist at MIT — Ahmed’s top choice for college. Skip ahead to the nine-minute mark and try not to cry as Ahmed’s face lights up when Prescod-Weinstein invites him to tour the school and tells him he is just the kind of student they’re dying to admit.
