Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell Wins Miss America Crown After Saying Tom Brady “Definitely Cheated”
The deciding factor in determining who to crown this year’s Miss America came down to one thing — Tom Brady’s balls. During the interview portion of the pageant, in which the top seven contestants were asking for their often cringe-worthy opinions on such topics as gun control, the 2016 election and Kim Davis, Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell got asked the most “Huh?” question of all.
“New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was suspended for his part in the so-called ‘DeflateGate’ scandal, then reinstated by the courts,” judge/country singer Brett Eldredge began. “Legalities aside, did Tom Brady cheat?”
Apparently, we except our beauty queens to have strong stances on football scandals now? We’ve gone too far! Miss Georgia handled the question better than I would (starring blankly into space until the time was up), word vomiting the following:
”Did he cheat? Um, that’s a really good question. I’m not sure. I think I’d have to be there to see the ball and feel it and make sure it was deflated or not deflated. But if there was question there, then, yes, I think he cheated. If there was any question to be had, I think that he definitely cheated, and that he should have been suspended for that. That’s not fair.”
In the end, her mediocre answer (and minor stumble, above) was no match for her formal crop top and opera-singing, and Cantrell was awarded the crowd over first runner-up Miss Mississippi Hannah Roberts; second runner-up Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson; third runner-up Miss Louisiana April Nelson; and fourth runner-up Miss Alabama Meg McGuffin.
“I would say that my dress may be a little sexy because it’s a two-piece that shows, like, an inch of midriff — so, breaking ground,” she said.
