Ronda Rousey Will Be Starring In The “Road House” Remake

Guys, Ronda Rousey is going to be starring in a remake of “Road House.” Let’s dissect how amazing this is.

First of all, if you’re not familiar with “Road House,” a good place to start is its taglines:

“Dalton lives like a loner, fights like a professional. And loves like there’s no tomorrow.”

“Dalton’s the best bouncer in the business. His nights are filled with fast action, hot music and beautiful women. It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it.”

Yeah. That is how this movie was marketed in 1989, when it was originally released. The film lived up to its marketing, too. It featured Patrick Swayze as a bouncer with a degree in philosophy (no really) who battles corruption in Jasper, Missouri (I mean, what?) by kicking a bunch of goons’ asses in probably the most exaggerated possible way. It didn’t do too well in the box office, but it’s since become a cult classic.

MGM sought UFC fighter Rousey for Swayze’s character, and apparently she got the blessing of Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, to play Jack Dalton or whatever they’re going to name the role now. According to Variety, Niemi consented “gladly” to Rousey’s request.

I didn’t even know that there was going to be a “Road House” remake, but this pretty much makes my whole year. Even better is the fact that the movie doesn’t have a writer yet. It doesn’t have a writer yet! I’m hoping that whoever MGM tags for writing and directing are as earnest about action films as the original production team, and that the indication here is that no one is taking this too seriously, because there’s no reason not to make this the ridiculous, knock-down, blow-out, over-the-top action remake it deserves to be.

“Road House,” guys.
