Hipster Barbie’s Instagram Life Is More #Blessed Than Yours

Instagram runs on FOMO, feelings of inadequacy and poorly-lit bathroom selfies. The content it hosts is perfect for parody, and so that is where we are with Hipster Barbie, the one Instagram parody account that does a very good job of skewering the overwrought, super-precious, Kinfolk-life aesthetic that haunts corners of Instagram that you probably don’t frequent. [Ugh. I do. I follow those people and I hate myself for it. — Amelia]

According to Wired, the person behind this brilliance is a Portland-based wedding photographer who is choosing anonymity so that she can continue to create these brilliant send-ups.

“People were all taking the same pictures in the same places and using the same captions,” she says. “I couldn’t tell any of their pictures apart so I thought, ‘What better way to make my point than with a mass-produced doll?’”

If you scroll fast enough throughout her entire feed, it’s almost like looking at the Instagram of your college roommate who moved to Seattle, got a Subaru and can’t stop posting pictures of her morning affirmations and latte art. Good stuff all around here, guys. Great job.
