A 17th Transgender Woman Has Been Murdered
Just yesterday, we reported on the three transgender victims of murder whose deaths have occurred or come to light in the last week – Elisha Walker, Kandis Capri, and Ashton O’Hara. Their deaths brought the total tally of transgender women murdered this year to 16, most of them women of color.
Now there are 17: Tamara Dominguez of Kansas City, Missouri. She was seen stepping out of a Chevrolet Avalanche at 3 AM on Saturday, then, according to the police, she was struck by the avalanche and run over two more times. Her family says that the car isn’t familiar and they don’t know who she was with. As is the case with many of the rest of the murders, police are not yet labelling this a hate crime.
