American Hostage Kayla Mueller Was Raped By Islamic State Leader While In Captivity

American hostage Kayla Mueller was repeatedly raped by ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, U.S. intelligence officials told her family in June. The family has just come forward to tell the world about their late daughter’s tragic final days.

Mueller was taken hostage with her boyfriend, Omar Alkhani, in August 2013 after leaving a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Syria.

Officials obtained the information about the abuse from two or more teenage Yazidi girls who were held hostage as sex slaves and found inside the Sayyaf compound, the same compound where Mueller was held. Reports revealed that Mueller cared for the other girls and was “like a mother” to the Yazidi girls held in captivity with her.

The news comes as no surprise especially after a recent piece by The New York Times on the widespread rape used as a war tactic by ISIS.

Rape is a war tactic that has been used by human beings since the start of our existence. It’s time we all talked about it openly, as a bitter reality.
