Mysterious Countdown Website To Maybe Reveal Clue To Buried Treasure

Holy shit! It’s a real life mystery! With clues and things! And a buried treasure! Pretend I’m holding a flashlight at my chin whilst I tell you of it!

Once upon a time (in 1988) an art dealer and writer named Forest Fenn was diagnosed with cancer and came up with a plan to bury some treasure and then die alone in the woods, leaving clues to its whereabouts. However, Fenn survived the cancer and decided later on to do the treasure hunt anyway.

In his 2010 memoir, The Thrill of The Chase, Fenn included a poem giving some clues as to the treasures location.

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know
I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

He has also dropped other clues to where the treasure is located in various interviews–like the fact that it is located in the Rocky Mountains, is not in a graveyard, and is wet. Reportedly, it is valued at $1-$3 million dollars, and contains valuable gold nuggets, jewelry, gemstones and more.

Recently, a mysterious website titled “Where Warm Waters Halt” — a reference to the poem — has appeared online, featuring nothing except a countdown clock. Some believe that when it counts down, a new clue will be revealed. As of this writing, we’ve got 14 hours to go!

This, of course, probably means that we’re going to have to schedule an official Frisky trip to the Rocky Mountains, so that we can be Goonies. Because I have to say, I feel pretty confident in our sleuthing abilities, and think we have as good a shot as anyone in finding this.
