Girl Catches The Plague In Yosemite, Didn’t Time Travel From Medieval London
The same disease that ravaged Europe in the Middle Ages (YES, THE BUBONIC PLAGUE?!) is actually still around and was recently caught by a normal girl from Los Angeles who was visiting Yosemite National Park.
No, she didn’t time travel from the dark ages, but this girl definitely had contact with a rodent who had rat fleas that were carrying the bacterium Yersinia Pestis, or, The Plague.
The most common way to contract it is through rat fleas found on rats, but these damn fleas can then jump onto other pets and even humans.
Basically if you go camping or even glamping this summer, please stay the heck away from alive and dead rodents. Don’t feed them or pet them and try to keep your dogs away from them too.
Luckily, The fucking Bubonic Plague is now easily treatable with swift and proper administration of antibiotics. Phew!
