Netflix Now Offering Unlimited Paid Maternity And Paternity Leave

Yesterday, Netflix announced that they would be offering unlimited maternity and paternity leave to new parents during the first year following their child’s birth or adoption. According to Tawni Cranz, Netflix’s Chief Talent Officer:

We want employees to have the flexibility and confidence to balance the needs of their growing families without worrying about work or finances. Parents can return part-time, full-time, or return and then go back out as needed. We’ll just keep paying them normally, eliminating the headache of switching to state or disability pay. Each employee gets to figure out what’s best for them and their family, and then works with their managers for coverage during their absences.

Seriously, this is an amazing perk. So many companies in the United States offer pretty limited maternity leave, and often unpaid, but Netflix is showing their employees how much they care and understand that job performance is impacted by general life satisfaction and happiness. Giving parents paid maternity and paternity leave that they can adapt to their needs, on top of an already existing unlimited time off policy for all employees? That’s awesome — now if only other companies would jump on the bandwagon… [Netflix]
