Nobel Winner, Malala Yousafzai Opens Up School For Syrian Refugees On 18th Birthday

Malala Yousafzai is the youngest winner ever of the Nobel Peace Prize. She also got shot in the face by the Taliban and has written a book. And she is continuing her tradition of being completely badass while still a teenager by celebrating her 18th birthday in Lebanon.

But for her birthday, instead of getting blackout drunk and crashing Dad’s car, she thought she would open a school for Syrian refugee girls, while calling on world leaders to invest in “books not bullets.” You know, as 18 year old girls so commonly do!

Right now, there are about 500,000 Syrian school-age children refugees in Lebanon, but only a fifth are in formal education. In addition, the U.N. says the number of Syrian refugees in neighboring countries may reach up to 4.27 million by the end of the year. Yikes.

Malala continues to inspire the world and we wish her a very happy birthday! We love you.
