Pope Apologizes For Church’s Sins Against Native People Of The Americas

During his tour of South America this week, very progressive Pope Francis continued his legacy on Friday, by being humble and gracious – and (gasp!) not defensive about being Christian, by apologizing for the genocide of millions of indigenous people of South America.

In a speech to the people of Bolivia he said:

“I humbly ask forgiveness, not only for the offenses of the church herself, but also for the crimes committed against the native peoples during the so-called conquest of America.”

But this wasn’t the whole story, the main gist of his speech was also dedicated to denouncing the type of “colonialism” that is now being done by the big banks – colonizing nation states and monopolizing small businesses. You know, the whole thing where corporations are people instead of people being people?

This liberal Pope keeps getting better every damn day. If his goal is to make Catholicism appear cool and beautifully liberal – it’s working.
