Listen To The “What Happened, Miss Simone?” Soundtrack Right Now

The soundtrack for the widely-acclaimed Netflix documentary “What Happened, Miss Simone?” is a stunning collection of old friends and new, gathering together to put their own spin on Nina Simone’s classic songs. NPR First Listen — the best way to listen to new music these days, honestly — has the soundtrack streaming until its release on July 10. We highly recommend turning off “Blank Space” or whatever poop you’re listening to right now, in favor of checking out these fresh interpretations of Simone’s legendary genius.

Standouts include Lauryn Hill’s glorious return on her cover of the classic “Feelin’ Good,” as well as Jazmine Sullivan’s ethereal and visceral rendition of “Baltimore.” The whole album is a treat, as is the documentary. If you haven’t seen that yet, cancel your plans for this evening and watch it. Trust me, that marathon of “Say Yes To The Dress” can wait.
