Hot Dog Shocker: Former 4th Of July Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champ Loses To A Newbie

Ah yes, it wouldn’t be a sweaty, smelly and frightening display of debauched patriotism without the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest! But this year took a different turn for the first time in eight years.

Move over Joey Chestnut, there’s a new hot dog scarfing machine in town. Long live the “Megatoad.”

Former eight year reigning champion and current year hopeful, Joey Chestnut (who broke a world record in 2013 when he took down 69 dogs), was defeated yesterday by a younger sprightly dude by the name of Matt Stonie (Megatoad) who downed 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes while Joey ate a mere 60!

The contest was broadcast nationally airing on ESPN2 and is a perfect American tradition of utter gluttony, competition and the ultra-grotesque. It has been a main stay of July 4th celebrations dating back to 1997.
