Neil Young Is NOT Happy About Donald Trump Using His Song
To kick off one of the most glorious traditions of our electoral process (at least since Reagan tried to use Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The U.S.A.”)–Neil Young is pissed about The Donald using his song “Rockin’ In The Free World” during his presidential announcement.
In a statement to Mother Jones, Young’s manager, Elliot Roberts, said:
Donald Trump’s use of “Rockin’ in the Free World” was not authorized. Mr. Young is a longtime supporter of Bernie Sanders.
AWESOME. Neil Young is the best. Love him forever, and I also love how happy this made my mom, who is a very big fan of both Neil Young and Bernie Sanders.
You know, I don’t really see why Republican candidates have such a hard time with this stuff. You’d think they’d want to support conservative musicians. Perhaps they could walk out to Ted Nugent’s “Jailbait!” Certainly, a song about a Real American™ inviting a police officer to join him in gang raping an underage, handcuffed girl would really stick it to us feminists.
Or maybe some Britney Spears, if she’s still a Republican? I don’t really know. Taylor Swift is a Republican, I think. Meatloaf, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gene Simmons, the Ramone no one likes, and, unfortunately–for me, because Pet Sounds is my favorite–The Beach Boys. You have options! You don’t have to keep stealing songs you’re misinterpreting from liberal musicians who don’t like you. Plus, it’s just polite to ask. Have some manners, why don’t you?
