Kickass Woman Of The Day: 99-Year-Old Doreetha Daniels Just Got Her College Degree
At 99-years-old, Doreetha Daniels is now the oldest graduate of College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. She began her studies at the college in 2009, after growing bored of the many creative hobbies she’d worked her way through and becoming inspired by watching her grandchildren pursue master’s degrees. On Friday, she took home a social sciences degree. While getting her education, Daniels suffered strokes and the loss of her driver’s license, but she pushed on. When she had a tough time with certain aspects of her schooling, like using campus computers, she visited the college’s tutoring center and worked that much harder.
Over the course of the past century, she’s seen more in her lifetime than most of us ever will. Her advice for younger students? Do it.
“Don’t want it, do it, because nobody can do it for you…I have seen sights that no one would believe were possible even fifty years ago…Don’t give up. Do it. Don’t let anybody discourage you. Say that, ‘I’m going to do it,’ and do it for yourself.”
