Watch The Broadway Casts Of The Lion King And Aladdin Have An Airport Sing-Off

Just when you think your travel plans are in the clear since there are no more snow storms to cancel your flights, thunderstorm season rolls around to ruin your summer weekend getaways and drop six-hour flight delays in your lap. This is especially heinous at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, which, as I’m sure many of you have seen firsthand, is one of the most congested, frequently-delayed and nauseating airports in the US. Inside the bubble of LaGuardia, it’s always Mercury Retrograde, no matter what time of year it is in the outside world. They even make you buy all their overpriced airport food through iPads that don’t work!

But anyway, I digress. Last Sunday, New York was hit with heavy thunderstorms and daunting weather delays, and some of the unlucky passengers stuck at LaGuardia that night included the Broadway casts of The Lion King and Aladdin. Instead of grumping around about their derailed plans like most of us would have, they took it as an opportunity to entertain their fellow travelers with a Broadway-caliber sing-off. One of the key players in the fun, James Inglehart (who freestyle raps in the video), won a Tony Award last year for his performance as the Genie in Aladdin. I’ve seen so many spontaneous “Circle of Life” serenades by the Lion King cast on video at this point that I’m starting to get jealous of what a nifty party trick they’ve got going for them. Wouldn’t it be great to have a go-to theme song to whip out in awkward moments? More important question: why can’t every travel disaster be this fun? [HuffPost]
