Just Look At This Asshole: Duggar Pastor Says Caitlyn Jenner Is “Defying God”

Would you believe this? Ronnie Floyd, the pastor of the Duggar’s conservative Pinnacle Cross Church in Arkansas had the chutzpah to dole out a fiery sermon this Sunday about how Caitlyn Jenner is no longer an American hero and was “defying god.”

Of Jenner, he stated:

“Gender is not fluid. God made you male or female. There’s no fluidity to that.”

“No such thing as gender neutral. No such thing as unisex. Couples, you raise your girls to be girls. Don’t raise them to be anything else other than girls. If they’re decreed by God to be a girl, then they need to be girls.”

Oh. OK.

Caitlyn Jenner Can Present However She Wants To
Let Caitlyn Jenner have her moment, would you?

Throughout the hour-long sermon he repeatedly misgendered Jenner and insisted upon using her dead name, while going on about how very sinful she is for choosing to be herself rather than continue be miserable in a male body.

Then, a mere few hours later, Floyd gave an interview to People all about how Josh Duggar was totally A-OK with god, and definitely forgiven. You know, the Josh Duggar who molested his 5 year-old sister?

“Everyone does wrong, and what was wrong was very wrong as to what was testified to and it’s completely unacceptable.

“But I’m thankful, whether it’s him or any other one, that I serve a God who can forgive everything.”

How on earth do they summon the gall for this shit?

You know, unlike Floyd and the Duggars and all those other very holy people out there, I am not particularly comfortable with saying certain people are “bad” people. Generally speaking, I don’t really believe in the concept of “bad people” and “good people” – because it’s actions, not people, that are good or bad. I habitually roll my eyes at the idea of anyone being good or bad “deep down.”

However. You know what? Fuck it. These people are bad people. They are not just people who believe differently than I do, they are scumbags.

Sure! They come from a different culture, and maybe that culture pushed them to have horrible ideas, and to think that somehow a person born the wrong gender is somehow worse than a child molester. Maybe that culture was what led to the Duggars covering up the molestation. Maybe it’s even part of what led to the molestation in the first place. After all, being told that young girls you are related to must be dressed modestly around you, and that you have to “side hug” your relatives to avoid sexual impropriety kind of assumes that you’d be sexually attracted to them in the first place, which is all kinds of messed up.

But you know what? At some point, it’s not your culture anymore, it’s you. Because lots of people have escaped that culture after realizing how entirely messed up it is. Lots of people have left other cults and creepy religions as well. And if you are the guy standing up at the pulpit and insisting that Caitlyn Jenner is doing wrong by being herself, but that molesting a five year-old is no big? Then you are the problem.

What kind of moral code would suggest that a person who hasn’t done anything to hurt anyone is somehow worse than, or even equal to, someone who has deliberately hurt someone, especially a child? How does that work in one’s brain? Maybe I don’t get this because I’m an atheist, but I cannot quite figure out how hurting someone is not worse than hurting exactly no one.

This is a kind of moral relativism I cannot quite wrap my head around. If everyone is a “sinner” and no sin is worse than any other sin, then essentially everything is permissible so long as you are willing to “ask god for forgiveness” afterwards? That is fucked up. Like, a person who goes on a murder spree and then says whatever the Protestant version of an Act of Contrition is will be all right with these people and their god, but a person who kisses someone before marriage, or is gay, or trans or some other innocuous thing and doesn’t ask for forgiveness is going straight to hell? Why even bother?

I always say, if religion makes you a better person, then go and do! Whatever gets you through the day! But in this case, it seems like religion is actually making these people worse.

Caitlyn Jenner is a goddamned badass, and one of the greatest athletes in the history of this country, Josh Duggar is a child molesting creep – and Ronnie Floyd is a goddamned asshole. End of story.
