Meet Damon C. Scott, The Subway Busker With A #1 Hit
If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the past few years, you probably recognize Damon C. Scott, whose viral vocals on the New York City subway have been uploaded to YouTube more times than anyone can count. He’s known for his stirring cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You,” but what most YouTube viewers don’t see is that he’s got much more up his musical sleeve than that one ballad. He’s the son of Earth, Wind & Fire vocalist Sherry Scott and records his own music. Unbeknownst to most of his subway spectators, he’s the voice behind Storm Queen’s wildly successful song “Look Right Through,” which debuted at #1 on the U.K. singles chart when it released in 2013. Sadly, Scott received little in return for the song’s fame and spends much of his time singing those Adele tunes. Filmmaker Emily Sheskin put together the short documentary “Damon At 86th Street” to share the story behind is underground serenades, and his incredible positivity and resilience in the film practically radiates off the screen.
