Mindy Kaling And B.J. Novak Want To Sell You A Book About Their Dead Relationship

As you probably know, since they are still telling anyone who will listen, former “The Office” coworkers Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak dated on and off for several years while they were working on the show together. In nearly every interview they give, each of them speaks wistfully about the other and finds a way to frame their lost love as “the one that got away.” Now, these two Professional Exes have reportedly received $7.5 million from Random House to write a book about the very relationship they’ve been talking to the press about for free in the (many) years since it ended. Even for a high-profile celebrity book, that many millions is considered steep (hell, even one million sounds like a lot to me). The title will reportedly be announced on May 30, when the two will appear at BookCon in New York City at a talk that was originally meant to be a discussion of Mindy’s upcoming essay book, “Why Not Me?”.

For what it’s worth, I’m a big fan of Mindy and B.J., together or apart. I love that they talk about breakups with honesty instead of with some standard celeb throwaway comment like “we grew apart.” But I am so over hearing about it! Yes, we know they’ll never get over each other, because they’ve said it enough times. We know, we know, we know.  They need to either work things out or, if it they’re as toxic together as they claim, stop milking it already. Guys, stop wasting all your romantic energy and emotional availability on each other if you’re never going to be together again!

You know what would be really cool? If they are secretly back together as we speak. This could be prime time for them to cross that bridge and find a way to make it work. It would be the perfect romantic comedy move if they fell back in love while writing this together. That’s a book I’d definitely read.
