This Professor Knows Just The Trick To Soothe A Crying Baby In Class

Professor Sydney Engelberg was in the midst of teaching an organizational behavior class at Jerusalem’s Hebrew University when a baby starting crying during his lecture. Engelberg has been teaching for 45 years, and he currently instructs master’s students, many of whom are parents. The 67-year-old encourages students with kids to just bring them along to class if they don’t have sitters, so a baby isn’t a surprising sight in his classroom, but how he handled the tears sure was. When his student stood up to leave the room so she could calm her child down, Engelberg took the baby in his arms and stopped the crying. Then he kept right on teaching, baby in tow, like nothing had happened.

His daughter Sarit Fishbaine told BuzzFeed News, “My dad just loves kids and loves babies, he has five grandchildren, so he just takes the baby. He’s the one that’s in motion, he’s walking around the class. So he just takes the baby and continues teaching.” Fishbaine says her dad doesn’t get why the picture has gotten so much viral attention, as it’s “so natural for him…The way he sees the concept of getting education is not only learning the dry facts that you need to learn in class, but also learning values. And that’s the very important message that my dad wants to endow to the world.”

Wouldn’t the world be great if all university professors saw life this way?
