6 Baltimore Cops Released on Bail Set Lower Than $500,000 Amount for Jailed Protester
In the wake of Freddie Gray’s murder and the weeks of protests in Baltimore as a result, there comes a huge let-down after the seemingly good news that all 6 Baltimore cops were charged with the murder of Freddie Gray. Each of these cops will now be released on a bail of $350,000, which is a significantly lesser amount than that of one jailed protester, Allen Bullock.
18 year old Allen Bullock was captured in photos smashing police car windows with a traffic cone and then arrested. As of two days ago, he was being held on $500,000 bail, an amount his parents could not afford. Bullock continues to be in jail because of this.
The dissonance here is palpable and is a sobering reminder yet again, of the truly significant abuses of power in our corrupt judicial system. Protesting for your fundamental human right to not be murdered by cops for no reason? $500k. Murdering an innocent unarmed man? Eh, we’ll let you go at $350k. No big whoop.
Thankfully, there is an Indigogo campaign to raise funds for Allen Bullock. This does not of course, change the fact that our police state is alive and well and ruining America, but at least the internet can help this kid.
