Just Look At This Asshole: Garbage Lawmaker Wants To Kick Baltimore Protestors’ Families Off Of Food Stamps

Oh for crying out loud, people are just gross. Meet Maryland State Delegate Patrick McDonough, who suggested this week on a radio show, that it would be just lovely if the state could kick families who allow their children to protest the murder (yeah, it’s officially homicide now) of Freddie Gray.

In audio obtained by First Look’s Lee Fang, a caller on a Baltimore radio program asks McDonough why the government could not “take away benefits from families, from like the parents who are collecting welfare” if the protesters were “too young.”

“That’s an idea and that could be legislation,” McDonough volunteers. “I think that you could make the case that there is a failure to do proper parenting and allowing this stuff to happen, is there an opportunity for a month to take away your food stamps?”

Allow me to just put it out there that this is literally not a thing anyone has ever said about white people protesting things. I should know! I spent a heck of a lot of time protesting the Iraq War, and the WTO and the School of The Americas, etc. etc. back in the day. Regardless of whatever else was said, no one was suggesting that our parents were bad at parenting, or anything like that.

I also highly doubt that McDonough was concerned about the family situations of those who went to go join Cliven Bundy up at his ranch to protest paying taxes and whatnot. Was anyone talking about that? Because I’m pretty sure I missed it. And allow me to point out that those people were actually armed! And literally no one was wringing their hands being all upset about how unfortunate it is that they were not raised to respect authority and to handle things more nicely.

Think about this for a second. This guy is so concerned about protesting and, probably, the destruction of a CVS that he suggests starving people as a means to stop it. Yet, he cannot comprehend why people might be a tad upset about the fact that unarmed black people are being murdered rather often by police officers. Cannot figure it out! It is a mystery to him!

As McDonough noted, it is highly unlikely that this is a thing that would actually get through the legislature. And for good reason, because it is stupid. But it’s pretty still troublesome that an elected official is sitting around fantasizing about starving poor people for allowing their children to exercise their first amendment rights.
