Obsessed: Handmade Galaxy Mugs Inspired By The Hubble Space Telescope

The Hubble Space Telescope brought us many things — views of faraway edges of the stars, clues to just how old this galaxy is, unlimited fuel for existential crises over the scope of our universe — but few are quite as fabulous as the decorative houseware it ushered into our lives. Each piece in this beautiful series of Cosmic Mugs by Joel Cherrico is handmade on a pottery wheel, with its design inspired by Hubble images. No two multi-colored mugs are exactly the same. They’re so in-demand that a waiting list has developed for those of us wanting to get our hands on one, and in the process of trying to find out more about how exactly I can procure one, I’ve become a tad bit obsessed with tracking one down.

In the video below, Cherrico explains his creative process and reveals himself to be the exact kind of delightful human you’d want making the mugs that will be sitting in your kitchen over the next few years. If you like his work, take a look at his Instagram, where he posts details of his latest mugs, lets the world in on the fact that he reads The Artist’s Way and thus is extremely in tune with his creativity, and displays what a wide variety of mug designs he’s created for the series. Everyone wins here. We all need to sip our morning coffees out of Cosmic Mugs.
