Ben Affleck Demanded PBS Hide His Slave-Owning Ancestor From Their Show

PBS’s popular show “Finding Your Roots” traces the ancestry of celebrities and it was recently revealed that Ben Affleck decided to hide some of his more sinister lineage.

Affleck thought he was safe with his secretive demand, until of course, the Sony emails were leaked! Turns out the host of the show, Henry Louis Gates Jr., wrote to Sony USA’s chief for advice on what the hell to do with a powerful celebrity who wants to hide the fact that he has a slave owner in his blood.

Newsflash Affleck: Many white Americans have this unfortunate ancestry as stated by Gates Jr. in his email to the Sony chief: “One of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors–the fact that he owned slaves. Now, four or five of our guests this season descend from slave owners, including Ken Burns.”

I understand that big time Hollywood stars feel the pressure of being a perfect icon without any wrongdoing in the history of their DNA. People judge, but anyone with any rational thought understands that this shit just happened and it doesn’t have anything to do with who you are now. I kind of feel like you need to just embrace your sordid ancestry no matter what, even if you are a big-time celeb trying to uphold your “brand” of altruistic social justice savior. Like, seriously Affleck, it’s not a big deal. What did you personally have to do with your long dead slave-owner ancestors?? Nothing buddy. Moving on!
