“White History Month” Deli Owner Would Like Some Money Now Please

As you may recall, back in March, some douchebag in Jersey put a sign out in front of his deli saying “Celebrate Your White Heritage In March WHITE HISTORY MONTH.” It did not work out well for him.

In fact, it worked out so poorly for ol’ Jimbo Boggess that he says he is now close to going out of business, because no one wants to buy any corned beef on rye from the weird racist guy. His solution? Following in the footsteps of the Pizza Bigots in Indiana,  he has started a GoFundMe account so that his fellow racists can give him money!

Via GoFundMe, bolding mine, grammatical errors all Jimbo:

Hi, my name is jimbo, I have a deli in Flemington N.J..On march 1st I hung a sign in my deli window saying, “Celebrate your white heritage in march, White History Month”. If you haven’t heard of this story and you want to read about it ,just google Flemington white history or go on YouTube and search White history month. Anyway, it went crazy for four days and then I had to take the sign down for various reasons. It was only supposed to be a white thing but people read more into it than that. I did get tons of supporting letters from all across the USA. Which was very comforting during such a stressful time. Then the bottom dropped out and customers were no longer coming into my deli, and now I am forced to close down my Deli and lose my American dream. I have become heavily in debt and getting shut off notices from everywhere for both business and home. I don’t think I deserve this just because I wanted to be proud of being white and be able to celebrate my heritage like everyone else does. If you read this , please leave a comment and what state your from so I can see where my support is coming from. Thank you for all the support and. I WILL stay strong and hope to find a job .
Thank you
Jimbo Boggess

So far, the GoFundMe has only raised $240, but surely it will explode just like the one for the Pizza Bigots did. This is pretty convenient for him, as it seems that Jimbo’s Deli was pretty close to going out of business well before the “White History Month” fiasco.

Yes, you guys are right, the store wasn’t doing good before the sign was posted. But it was doing good enough to keep the store open . After the sign was posted I started only ringing up 23 to 40. Dollars a day . Couldn’t pay march rent or utilities , then April came and I didn’t have the money for April either . I barely rang enough money to purchase things to sell like eggs coffee and rolls . Then I got my eviction letter and shut off notices ,so sorry if you don’t understand my situation.

So now he will probably get all the money, and there will probably be a lot of conservatives crying about how mean liberal bloggers like myself ruined this poor man who just wanted to be happy about being a white dude. You know, because the “invisible hand of the free market” is only awesome when it is strangling poor people and keeping wages down, and definitely not when people choose to not patronize the delis of weird bigots.

As I mentioned yesterday in reference to the mechanic dude who won’t work on gay cars, this is a pretty great cash cow these days. You have more of a chance of getting hundreds of thousands of dollars for just saying you don’t want to cater gay weddings or that you really like being a white person than you do of winning the lottery.

But for what it’s worth, I’m just gonna say this–there is nothing wrong with being in touch with your ethnicity and it’s culture. I am Irish and Italian–which, yes, despite what many commenters on the previous post about Jimbo insisted, does mean that I am in fact a white person–and I am totally into that. I speak Italian, I love opera and Louis Prima, and for lunch today I had pizza I made myself a couple days ago. Which, by the way, I’d be happy to make for a gay wedding should anyone want some. Perhaps later I’ll watch The Commitments or something just to balance it out, but you get what I’m saying. That’s not celebrating “white heritage”–that’s being in touch with my own.

I don’t have a shared “heritage” with like, a Norwegian person or a Mayflower Material WASP or whatever. If we were to talk about our family traditions, it is likely we wouldn’t have a whole lot in common. There’s not a generic “white heritage” to celebrate, and that is why suggesting that there be a “white history month” or that we celebrate our “white heritage” is absurd, and yes, the intent behind it is racist and petty.
