Yes, That’s Terrorism: Man Arrested For Sending “Anthrax” To Gay Bar
Blazing Saddles, a gay bar in Des Moines, Iowa, recently received a terrifying letter purporting to contain anthrax, and threatening to kill and eat anyone celebrating on the city’s Capital Pride Night.
“It’s time for all the [redacted] and [redacted…though I think we can guess] to die on Capital Pride night! Your secret enemies are going to blow up your destination for going to hell tonight, and we are going to eat roast [redacted] the following morning. This is your punishment for sinning against God, and hopefully you’ll die from the anthrax on this letter!”
The owners of the bar, who say they get hate mail all the time, were understandably freaked the fuck out when they saw the white powder in the envelope. Luckily, the substance turned out to be Gold Bond Medicated Powder, but still. A threat is a threat. Eric Reece Wiethorn, 49, of Ames, Iowa, was arrested and charged Thursday with first degree harassment for sending a hate-filled, threatening letter to the Blazing Saddles gay bar.
This Thursday, police arrested and charged 49 year-old Eric Reece Wiethorn of Ames, Iowa with first-degree harassment for having sent the letter.
Good thing he’s an old Christian white dude sending a threatening letter to a gay bar, because otherwise he probably would have been charged with terrorism! Which, technically, is what this is, given that the definition of terrorism is “the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.” Certainly, even fake anthrax would be a big deal coming from almost anyone else.
I’m glad the bar owners are safe, but it seriously sucks that this shit still happens in the year 2015.
