Dr. Frederic Brandt Committed Suicide, But Not Because Of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”

  • Celebrity dermatologist Dr. Frederic Brandt, whose patients included Madonna, was found dead in his Miami home yesterday at age 65. His rep Jacquie Trachtenberg said Brandt had been suffering from an illness for quite a while, and Twitter theorized that the illness was depression. It was later confirmed that Brandt committed suicide. He’d reportedly been devastated by Martin Short’s parody of him on “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” prompting Trachtenberg to tweet a clarification: “The show definitely deeply hurt him, he was being made fun of because of the way he looks. It is mean, and it was bullying. But the show was not the reason for his depression, and it was not the reason he would take his own life.” Regardless of the reason, it’s a tragic loss. [Dlisted]
