We Definitely Need Ruth Bader Ginger Ice Cream In Our Lives

Last week, Amanda McCall proposed 10 new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors honoring awesome women, in response to the fact that most Ben & Jerry’s flavors named after people were named after men. In the past several decades, although there have been over 20 flavors named after individual people, only two of those people have been women–Tina Fey’s “30 Rock” character Liz Lemon (Liz Lemon’s Greek Frozen Yogurt), and Olympic snowboarder Hannah Teter (Hannah Teter’s Maple Blondie).

To boot, the company just released their second flavor named after “Tonight Show “host Jimmy Fallon, in honor of his first year serving as host. Something’s gotta give.

Although many of the flavors suggested by McCall sound super awesome–particularly Chocolate PepperMinty Kaling Crunch and S’moria Steinem–her suggestion also inspired another potential flavor that seems to be gaining a lot of support: RUTH BADER GINGER.

So far, there has been an NPR article on why Ruth Bader Ginger is a thing that must exist, and now there is a Change.org petition to get Ben & Jerry’s to actually make it.

I am so in favor of this, as I both love RBG and the flavor itself sounds super delicious — brown sugar cinnamon ice cream with ginger snaps and a caramel ginger swirl!

One thing though, as far as the actual flavor goes! I discovered a while back, during a rather dark period in my life, that ginger snaps are incredibly delicious when topped with Nutella. Like, perhaps the best possible thing to put Nutella on. Instead of a “ginger caramel swirl,” which could perhaps be overwhelming given the amount of ginger elsewhere, maybe there should be a swirl of Nutella? Just a suggestion. Also, try ginger snaps with Nutella on them, because holy crap it is the best thing.
