Circus Elephants Free At Last!

Yesterday, The Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus (which I admit I didn’t even know was still around) decided to finally free their performing elephants, you know, since it’s not the 19th Century anymore. The circus is planning to phase out the elephants by 2018 and join the ranks of the more humane circus entertainment practices. The Associated Press reports that there has been a “mood shift” towards the use of real animals, which has resulted in poor attendance. Activism at work! Now if only those Sea World assholes could pay attention and let poor Tilikum go free as well (do not watch “Blackfish” if you want to keep your tear ducts intact).

The best part is that the elephant are going to retire to their 200-acre Center for Elephant Conservation in Central Florida. I am picturing a bunch of elephants shacking up in Florida like the Golden Girls, chillin’ on the lanai. Awesome. [AP]
