19-Year-Old Unarmed Black Teen Shot By Police Nearing The 50th Anniversary of Selma’s “Bloody Sunday”

Today brings news of another tragic shooting death of an unarmed Black man at the hands of the police. Tony Robinson (above), 19, of Madison, Wisconsin, was fatally shot last night by a police officer after an altercation near his residence. After the shooting last night, hundreds of people showed up to his residence to protest his death chanting “Who can you trust? Not the police.” [NBC News]

Robinson’s death sadly coincides with today’s 50th anniversary of Selma, Alabama’s Bloody Sunday. On March 4, 1965 thousands of Black people marched from Selma to Montgomery to demand racial equality. On March 7, 1965, state troopers launched an onslaught tear gas and beatings to break up the non-violent crowd of protestors.
