How About No: Models In ‘Glittery Blackface’ At Milan Fashion Week

Oh fashion industry, you never learn, do you? This weekend during his Milan Fashion Week presentation, Italian designer Claudio Cutugno presented his his all-black collection — including the models donning glittery blackface. Ew. Why couldn’t this just be about all black clothes, man?

Cutugno says he was inspired by an artist and claims that he “didn’t know blackface was offensive.” Oh.

Nowadays please, let’s just avoid anything that is blackface-ish whether the intention was blackface or not. The road to good intentions leads straight to hell after all. It doesn’t matter what his intentions were, the result is offensive because of our oppressive history and can we just leave it at that? Thank you! [The Root]
