It’s Been Two Days And I Can’t Stop Singing “We Didn’t Start The Fire”

If you are living under a rock and  have a hole in your heart the size of a fictional Indiana town (Eagleton, for example), then you probably missed one of the greatest scenes in television history a few nights ago: Amy Poehler scream-yelling Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” complete with fabricated lyrics.

In the last 60 hours, I have not been able to get the original fucking song out of my head. Maybe I didn’t grow up listening to enough Billy Joel (not enough Billy Joel is every amount less than “all Billy Joel all the time”), but damn if I haven’t had this song on near-constant rotation. I broke three toes listening to Billy Joel scream words at me through Spotify. I texted a friend at 1 a.m. last night, baked out of my mind, “I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE ON REPEAT FOR OH ABOUT 27 MINUTES.” His only reply was “Come on.” I have cried about the fact that steel drums have been all but displaced in modern rock music.

I have spent the last two weeks, and will spend the next four, ugly crying at my TV over the impending end of “Parks and Recreation.” Please come sing this to me during my period of loss. [via Vulture]
