Just As I Said THREE YEARS Ago, Ryan Gosling Doesn’t Want To Be People’s Sexiest Man Alive

Today in “Breaking Celebrity News That I Broke Three Damn Years Ago,” The Wrap is reporting that Ryan Gosling has been approached by People magazine multiple times and offered their annual “Sexiest Man Alive” title, but that he’s had his reps turn it — and the associated magazine cover shoot — down. “The consensus was he’s too serious for it, too artsy,” a source told The Wrap.

I TOLD YOU SO.

Back in 2011, I wrote an open letter to Ryan, praising him for his decision to turn down the title. Mind you, the fact that he turned it down wasn’t yet known, but I knew because I know my man. I understaaaaaaaand him.  I mean, obviously he was offered the title, because he IS the sexiest man alive, those are just FACTS, and I’m sure People will offer the award to him every year going forward too, because they have to. But my man doesn’t need or want to be lauded for his beautiful face and body and sex me eyes, he wants to be appreciated for his talent. That’s why, when Buzzfeed was losing their shit over Bradley Cooper landing the cover in 2011, I was focused on supporting Ryan’s choice to NOT be the Sexiest Man Alive. I wrote:

For empty vessels like Bradley Cooper it’s an honor, sure, but you’ve got better things to do besides looking pretty. You have feminist wisdom to spout and a cool dog to walk and me to daydream about and art fights to stop and rad movies to make and popsicles to suck on.

Anyway, the point is, I am really glad you listened to your inner voice and offered People a polite “Hey girl, thanks, but no thanks” note declining their offer. Honestly, this stance against traditional standards of male sex appeal makes you even sexier, and in a way that can’t be constrained on a glossy magazine cover.

So, yeah, I’m psychically and spiritually connected to Ryan Gosling and this is proof. [The Wrap]
