The Stages Of Reaction To Playz-N-Skillz’s “Literally, I Can’t” Video In GIFs

Above, the new music video from Playz-N-Skillz, featuring featuring Redfoo, Lil Jon and Enertia McFly, for the song “Literally, I Can’t.” Watch and then let’s digest together, after the jump…

WHAT DID I JUST SEE.

OK, YES, I JUST SAW WHAT I THOUGHT I JUST SAW.

MAYBE THERE’S A WAY TO REACT TO THIS WITHOUT GETTING MAD.

OH — OH GOD – -WHAT’S HAPPENING — IT’S — IT’S TAKING OVER — I CAN’T STOP FLIPPING THIS OFF — LITERALLY, I CAN’T!

The sad thing is, this actually isn’t the most offensive video I’ve seen this year. No, that undoubtedly goes to Elliot Rodgers’ bonkers misogynist massacre manifesto. Davis Aurini’s anti-Anita Sarkeesian videos are also a less predictable sort of misogyny than the outright macho chauvinism of “Literally, I Can’t.” The only thing that puzzles me about the whole thing is why Universal Music Group is OK with this song and video, and why it is that we can manage to wheedle apologies out of actors, writers, and artists, but not out of record labels.

“You’re annoying me, ’cause you’re talking.” “I said jump on the pole, I didn’t mean your opinion.” “I’m sippin’ on this drink, I’m trying to see what you got, not trying to hear what you think.” It’s basically just the most forthright expression of what misogynists feel about women: Do what I tell you to do, and keep your mouth shut. In the context of the video, it’s an attack on any woman who isn’t “down,” basically — not down to get hammered on tequila and sexually entertain a man at a party, to do what he asks or commands her to do without objecting, no matter what it is. God help, I know it’s so hard on assholes like this that women are capable of making decisions for themselves, especially when it comes to our bodies.

My basic feeling about guys like this is, how about instead of me doing what you tell me to do without speaking to you, you just don’t speak, and I won’t ask you to do anything other than that? I feel like that’s fairer, on my part.
