Fox Picked Up A “Subversive” New Show Based On The Archie Comics

Ooooh, there’s going to be a new live-action Archie show called “Riverdale,” written by Archie writer and Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Berlanti Productions, which is the production house for “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and the upcoming “Supergirl.” It’s going to be a “subversive” look at small-town life, featuring Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Reggie, as well as other well-known Archie characters like Josie and the Pussycats. Can we get Sabrina in there, too, and can we get Melissa Joan Hart to play Hilda or Zelda?

I had no idea that Archie had expanded as much as it has — there are 17 different Archie titles in publication right now, the most entertaining of which sounds to be Afterlife with Archie, which takes place in a post-zombie apocalypse Riverdale. NPR said it’s “actually scary,” and it’s the only rated-teens-and-up Archie title.

Well, anyway, I’m looking forward to this, because while I loved Archie comics when I was a kid, I was always really disturbed by how spic-and-span the crew’s lives seemed to be. It was picked up by Fox, which, between “New Girl,” “Gracepoint,” and”Bob’s Burgers” is my current favorite network.
